Bromeliad Guzmania

Though bromeliads are known for being low maintenance long lasting flowers, the guzmanias are particularly easy. They come in a variety of colours, including red, orange, yellow, purple, and pink. Their blooms will last approximately three months in good conditions. These plants like a well lit room, but do not want any direct sunlight. The way the plant feeds itself is by taking up water between the leaves. Once there is no water between the leaves it is time to water it which is normally once a week.

Bromeliad Vriesea

Bromeliad Vriesea is characterized by its compact leaves, and blooms that branch off. They come in a variety of colours, including red, orange, and yellow lasting approximately three months. These plants like a well lit room, but do not want any direct sunlight which may burn their leaves. Being a tropical plant, they tend to thrive in humid conditions that compare to their native tropical rainforest habitat. Letting a bowl of water evaporate near it will create a nice humid micro environment for the plant. Once there is no water between the leaves it is time to water it, which is normally once a week.

Bromeliad Aechmea

Aechmea are the most sturdy of the bromeliads. Their leaves tend to be thicker and can endure drier climates as their leaves hold onto a lot of moisture. However, their blooms do thrive when there is water between their leaves. When they are well cared for they may sprout tiny purple flowers from it's larger bloom. After these wilt away the bloom will eventually turn brown and will be ready to be replaced.
